The Pygmy loris (N. pygmaeus) is distributed east of the Mekong River in Vietnam, eastern Cambodia, Laos and southernmost China. A monotypic species, wih no sub-specific differences. The Pygmy loris has a noctornal, aboreal lifestyle, living in primary, secondary, bamboo forest and degraded habitats.
The Pygmy loris weighs on average between 350 and 600g with no difference between males and females. Wild diet is varies consisting of gums, fruits, arthropods, flower parts, fungi, parts of bamboo culms and reptiles. Pygmy loris, although small have evolved many special features to defend themselves against being preyed upon by small carnivores, snakes and monitor lizards. The produce a special fluid from brachial glands on their arms, which when mixes with saliva becomes very toxic. Loris bites can be very dangerous, as ther are very slow to heal. Loris when threatened produce a death like smell to deter predators.
